Return of the Western Blue Devil!

April 27, 2020: It's the Western Blue Devil swimming into Dreamyfish Art again!

Pencil portrait: Western Blue Devil, Paraplesiops sinclairi (Hutchins 1987) from the environs of Western Australia's southwestern waters and depicted here within his (her?!) favorite 'dream scenario' by Jude Cowell, an artful blend of Saturn (realism) + Neptune (visionary) which I count as a symbolic nod to my Sun Capricorn-Moon Pisces personality combination!

So nod your noggin, dear reader, if you know what I mean!!

And as always, you're cordially invited to visit Jude Cowell Astrology if and as you wish!

New! Portrait of a Northwest Anemone Fish

Well, it took a while but here's my completed Portrait of a rather charming Northwest Anemonefish, an Amphiprium rubrocinctus!

Also known as an Australian Anemonefish or Clownfish, this little fellow hangs around in the Indian Ocean and is localized to the Northern Territories and Western Australia where he enjoys yummy meals of algae and planktonic crustaceans whenever he gets a chance.

Image: Portrait of a Northwest Anemonefish; colored pencil on black paper; original photo by Richardson; imaginary dream surroundings added by yours truly because Dreamyfish Art is a Saturn (realism; botanical drawing) plus Neptune (art, visionary dream surroundings) = real + imaginary sort of thing. Most tropical fish exist in the darker realms of the sea so here we see them ensnared within their favorite dream scenarios, full of color and light!

Coral Reefs Dying Off at an Alarming Rate: Climate Change 2017?

Here's a recent segment and interview from The Thom Hartmann Program concerning an alarming environmental catastrophe that's only getting worse:

Is This New? The Emerald Fish Investigate! by Jude Cowell

In real life, this drawing is hu-u-ge! Emerald Fish Investigate!; oil and watercolour pencil on black paper by yours truly Jude Cowell (c)1996--2020 and beyond; photo via a Samsung phone because the drawing won't fit a regular scanner bed at all even though images aren't as crisp as you and I would prefer. Yet I'm thinking a blurry phone snap creating an excerpt from my over sized drawings is about the only way that larger, long hidden illustrations will ever come out of their shells, yawning as they dare...

Wonderful You: You're in the Fish's Dream!

So if you may, consider this posting a tiny peep eye! to You from the emerald fishes who, admittedly, turn up quite often within my botanical fish portraits with their impossibly exotic backgrounds. Well, fish dream, too!

~:~

Perhaps it's mild synchronicity that today (Mar 2, 2017) such an investigation by the emerald fishes occurs at this moment here because in a related story about certain current events we discover that more research {is} needed into 'intrusive' seismic surveys: Western Australian fishing industry asserts. Or, perhaps the guilty parties should cease and desist causing harm to the environment making unnecessary their expensive studies (intended to delay action).

Those responsible should do what needs to be done or improve what needs improving. Like Obamacare. Improve it, don't kick millions of Americans to the curb without health insurance, you Washington blighters. Oops! Mea culpa! It's my indignation at in-breach-of-the-public-trust politicians who are nearly completely worthless as 'our' representatives. If Republicans and enabling Democrats proceed with their austerity measures, let's kick power elite freeloaders off taxpayer-funded health insurance programs for a year and see how they like it.

Astrological Neptune Erodes, Dissolves, and Veils

Intimidation, bribery, blackmail, pocket-lining, graft, fraud, insider trading, pay offs, favors, you name it. That's my former city of residence, the Virgoan-Scorpionic Washington DC. And though I miss the beauty of the place, to me its citywide Masonic architecture looks more and more mausoleum baby with each passing year while the Halls of Power grow dustier, draftier, and leakier by the Neptunian drop. Could the dripping sound We the People hear be pouring from our nation's 1776 Neptune in earthy Virgo?

Sea sweep (scorpis sequipinnis), a fish portrait by Jude Cowell

Oh, look, it's a pencil portrait of a Sea sweep, scorpis sequipinnis (Richardson) from Recherche Archipelago (Western Australia) and he's here to favor us both with a peek at his botanical portrait, my attempt to capture in pencil his natural insouciance.

As if!

West Coast forage fish in danger 11.4.11

Hello again, fellow fish lovers!

Oceana has released a new report concerning dangerous conditions of West Coast forage fish which you may wish to check out.

Now you know I have no drawings of forage fish from the West Coast in my files but here's a little fellow you may have met before who'd like to say, Hi! and weigh in support of his foraging cousins...

This is my pencil drawing of a Pale sweetlips from Western Australia. But here are some other sweetlips specimens with photos and details.

BP Oil Gusher hearings naming names, says Knightfish

Names are being named for their poor safety decisions that issued from BP's Houston Texas offices just prior to the April 20, 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil and Methane Gas Blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, and frankly I and my little Dreamyfish Art denizens are glad the truth is finally coming out.

More truth, please! And how about some personal accountability while you're at it?

Well, the official committee report is said to be due out in January 2011 and perhaps we'll hear more info as the months go on.

Meanwhile, here's one of my pencil portraits of a denizen of Western Australia for you now...lone reader, I present to you the Honorable Knightfish!

Red Sea oil spill said to be contained!

Good news! The June 18 Red Sea Oil Spill is now successfully contained and under control, reports the excellent X-RAY MAG.

And here you see a portrait of a little Western footballer from Western Australia who's very pleased to hear the good news concerning his Red Sea cousins.

Wonder if there are any lessons from the Red Sea for cleaning up the BP-Gulf Oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico? For there seems to be no mop big enough to contain the worst environmental disaster is US history (so far.)

Well, The Daily Green provides freshly updated reports on how the Gulf Coast and ocean clean-up efforts are going and how the folks in the devastated region are managing (to the extent that they are.)

But one person didn't manage at all, for I'm very sorry to note that the BP Oil disaster and its dire effects have caused one ship captain to commit suicide. He'd been helping with BP's clean up efforts but it was all too much for him.

How very very sad and this blogger sends out heartfelt condolences to his family.

Botanical drawing of a Knightfish

Here's a little Knightfish swimming in from Western Australia and wondering if we'll ever get our act together enough to...

Save Our Oceans!

So now this lovely underwater photo of a Knightfish (aka, Pineapple Fish for obvious reasons) has turned up so you may wish to snag yourself a view while you still can.

Truncate coralfish weighs in

This little Truncate coralfish has floated by to say, Hello! He hasn't been here in a while, 'tis true, for he tends to hang out near the coastline of Australia searching for breakfast, lunch, and dinner within coral colonies and other marine nooks and crannies.

Here are a couple of lovely photos of his nibs, yet his personal Wiki bio is mighty thin, so if you'd care to add to his legend with Truncate coralfish facts and figures, this little member of the butterflyfish family would be most pleased with you and in your debt forever.

Breaksea cod

Welcome to Dreamyfish Art by Jude Cowell! Here you see a tropical fish from Geographe Bay, Western Australia. His full name is Epinephelidea armatus, but he answers to Breaksea cod. A lifelong artist who happens to be fond of tropical fish, I have combined here the Saturnian realism of Capricorn - whose oldest archetypal symbol is the mer-goat - with the visionary qualities of Neptune's Pisces to create dreamlike scenarios for...Dreamyfish. Fish are drawn as botanically correct as I can make them, but the backgrounds are figments of someone's imagination. Saturn realism + Neptune dreaminess = Dreamyfish! Because fish dream, too... Now Neptune's realm is the sea, of course, and if you know anything about Astrology at all, you are familiar with the two fishes of Pisces...one swimming upwards and one swimming down. These Dreamyfish are at their best within their dreams - kind of like a lot of people I know! Putting Neptunian symbols or images (Neptune's realm includes film, illusions, dreams, veils and masks, among other things) into Saturnian form seems a likely project for a Sun Capricorn/Moon Pisces like yours truly, and I hope you'll visit this gallery often for here you may have a sneak peek into their most favorite dreams...and with no one the wiser! Some cool fishy links will be added as time permits, and your comments and queries are most welcome. Thanks for visiting, -Jude Cowell Dec 19 2005 7:40 pm, actually ps: That's "Coh' wull", not "cow" as in moo-cows or Simon...fyi!
