Humpback Whale Season in Hawaii

My friend Carol from Hawaii's Kohala Coast has written an excellent article Winter Waves Signal the Start of Humpback Whale Season. Did you know that the word for Humpback whales is kohala?

Carol gives a list of whale behavior which you may find interesting, and she links to The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary as well.

Carol's article has great information--swim over and check it out!

Whale Sharks: Ralph, Norton, Alice, and Trixie

Aquarium Conducts Exam on Whale Sharks which is no mean feat for the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

Ralph, a 22-foot long whale shark and a mere "teen", is one of four--Norton, Alice, and Trixie--at the GA Aquarium, the only place you'll find whale sharks displayed outside Asia.

Check out the marvelous Georgia Aquarium here.

A Future Without Fish?

The NYTimes has an article on the possible upcoming global collapse of fish populations worldwide.

29% of species have been fished so heavily or are so affected by pollution or loss of habitat that they're down to 10% of previous levels--aka as "collapse."

There are those against the prediction--the Bush administration as you would expect in their science-iness kind of way--yet 2048 is estimated as the target date after data from 1950--2003 was studied within all 64 large marine ecosystems worldwide.

Overfishing, pollution, loss of habitat = a recipe for "A Future Without Fish."

You'll find a link in the article to the journal Science where this study appears.

All the Dreamyfish say, let's Save the Fishes and Oceans! It's not too late, and they're are many things which can help if we begin now to avoid A Future Without Fish.

Aquarium Lore

Today I found a cool new blog concerning fishies called Aquarium Lore which you may like!

ART? No tropical fish portraits are completed just now...but stay tuned, fish-lovers...and scroll down just a ways to see the Dreamyfish SlideShow, if you like.

You may want to mosey over to my Cosmic Persona Designs Gallery, or take a break with Secret Moon Art where you'll see recently published images direct from my drafting board!

Besides: if you like cats, politics, cat photos, and limericks all schmooshed up together--and who doesn't?--try Lim's Limericks where the cats are politically inclined...and a bit pithy in their opinions as well.

Art On!

Polka dot boxfish

This Polka dot boxfish, Ostracion cubicus Linnaeus, is usually found near Rosemary Island in the neighborhood of Western Australia, but he's floated by to say Hi to ya!

Fortunately for him, Lim never uses any sort of boxfish in his recipes at Lim's Limericks so Polka dot has nothing to worry about from Lim or from his hungry belly...but his limericks are another matter entirely...

8.15.06>DINNER UPDATE: Well, I spoke too soon--Lim did cook up a mess o'boxfish the other night. It was a surprise to me that Lim would break his own rule, but it was a flakey and yummy treat, I must admit. Chef Lim never lets ya down!

Red fairy basslet with Pattillo

Red fairy basslet strays from his usual neighborhood as Pattillo Armadillo crosses the pond by walking underwater as some armadillos choose to do when they feel impelled!

The Red fairy basslet is aka Anthias kashiwae (Tanake) and hails from North West Cape, Western Australia.

June 26, Monday: LibraMoon, aka Laurie Corzett, has published her E-Zine this very day...JUNE NEW MOON Issue #2 is LIVE online at Emerging Visions with Art, Flash Fiction, and Poetry...check it out!

And visit Lim's Limericks by A.Cat for a sampling of the constents of three mysterious packets which I received full of limericks and verses concerning the exploits of Mr.A.Cat in service of his country.

BUT--if you wear your political indoctrinations on your sleeve you would do well to avoid these limericks AT ALL COSTS! A word to the wise from a little bird who told me...
