From the General Assembly at the United Nations this week, some good news is announced for marine and fish conservation as a promise is made by Palau that it will ban shark hunting from its waters and become a Shark Sanctuary.
Fish of all stripes could use such support as this, and Palau plans to ask the world to join in such banning (good luck with that.)
Click the article link to read more and view a disturbing photo of sharks in a row - with fins that have been callously removed. It's a very sad sight.

Marine debris can turn on your lights, says Red fairy basslet
September 18, 2009 Marine News:
Reuters reports that it's time for the 24th annual International Coastal Cleanup when thousands of volunteers worldwide participate in collecting marine debris from ocean coasts and waterways after which each piece is catalogued, indexed, and turned into clean, renewable energy to power our homes.
As you know, ocean debris is one of the biggest problems faced by marine life. Debris ruins water quality yet its ill effects are completely preventable.
But given humankind's sloppy ways, the next best thing to stopping the littering and dumping is this massive global movement to clean up waterways and coasts that deserve more care from their visitors and neighbors...that'd be us.
And you don't have to be a New-Age-y sort of Gaia fan to know that our Mother Earth mourns constantly on behalf of her watery creatures of the deep, the ones we treat so cavalierly at their, and at our own, peril.
If ever I've heard of a 'make lemonade out of lemons' solution for pollution, it would be the annual International Coastal Cleanup project, for we must have decent water in order to make the best lemonade.
Why its health and environmental benefits are too numerous to mention!
Red Fairy Basslet joins me in saying, Save Our Oceans!

A Coming Soon Alert: my Dreamyfish Art portraits will soon be appearing in a new Cafe Press shop called Jude Cowell Art which is now under construction and will be offering Wall Posters of fishy denizens from the get-go, plus other Art images and products will be added as time goes on.

Artist interview: who~where~what~why?
Have you ever seen my artwork online and wondered, Who is this artist and what shenanigans is she up to and why?
And where does she park her drafting table?
Then you may enjoy reading an interview with me at Wandering Educators, published in honor of my being named their September 2008 Artist of the Month.
You'll see a variety of my images there including Dreamyfish Art portraits, so do check it out, if you've managed to missed it so far, and most of all...

Fishy Visitor from Carnac Island
You have a visitor from Carnac Island, one you've met before. It's Mr. Slender weed whiting enquiring, "How cool are the waters off Western Australia?"
For as you may know, Carnac Island is home of the Tiger Snakes, eek!

Agora Gallery website's cool Art display
My favorite feature on NYC's Agora Gallery website (besides Dreamyfish Art being a proud link partner!) is their Art Slideshow set up as if various paintings are hanging behind the desk in their reception area.
And since you never know what genre of work will be displaying there, you may wish to check out their cool Art Exhibition from the comfort of your secure location, if you haven't done so!

The sad situation of the Longhorn cowfish
New Scientist is reporting that Longhorn cowfish are in serious trouble, and all the Dreamyfish I know are very sad about the situation.
These worsening conditions affect other species as well so check out the NS article if you will.

Stimulus Money to Fund Coral Reef Restoration!
McClatchy News is reporting that $3.3 million from the president's stimulus package is to fund the restoration of coral reefs in Florida and the US Virgin Islands.
All the Dreamyfish here in the Dreamyfish Art collection are psyched to hear the good news and our little blue planet should be as well...

Clown surgeonfish says, Happy Birthday, America!
Here's a lovely little Clown surgeonfish from Western Australia floating by to say Hello!
Having gotten word in the last 3 days of three friends having surgery (one of them shockingly unexpected), I thought perhaps a surgeonfish was the way to swim around here at Dreamyfish Art today.
But don't forget to mosey by my latest blog Two Hours You'll Never Get Back where you'll find more of my drawings on several themes (including fishies), a bunch of other stuff (such as America's Solar Return 2009 for July 4th!), and some very interesting links to other blogs and sites as well...
So Clown surgeonfish and I say, Happy 233rd birthday, America, you're still my only nag in the race!

False Senator Wrasse says Hello!
A charming False Senator wrasse has floated by to say Hello and to give a tout-out to the political observations made through an astrological lens which occur regularly at Stars Over Washington if you're game.
Yes, it's true that irrascible false senators abound on Capitol Hill but not so many remain in the oceans of Western Australia, as this little fellow might attest. He's an Aussie native, you know.
And he'd like to take this opportunity to say: Save Our Oceans!

Note: You are cordially invited to check out my new blog if you dare at Two Hours You'll Never Get Back, a tapestry blog woven of many subjects - and do send along your own blog or site link if you think we're a match! jc 5.5.09 2:14 pm edt
